Arthur Lira’s victory and the impacts on democracy

Congressman Arthur Lira, from the Progressive Party, was elected with 302 votes on February 1 as the president of the Chamber of Deputies for the 2021-2022 biennium. Because it exceeded the absolute majority (257 out of 513), the election was concluded in only one round. The victory of the candidate supported by Jair Bolsonaro against his rival, Baleia Rossi, from the Brazilian Democratic Movement, in an electoral process marked by political clashes, twists and turns, and power games, represents another uncertain piece to the unstable Brazilian politics.

The race for vaccination against Covid-19 in Brazil: How can the fake news and the negligence of the government influence the immunization?

“The most expected vaccine in history”. This is how many people and media institutions referred to the immunizer capable of stopping the spread of the new coronavirus.  Since December 2019, when the first case of covid-19 was diagnosed in the Chinese peninsula of Wuhan, more than 100 million people worldwide have been contaminated and 2.2 million have lost their lives as victims of this disease. As a result, scientists, politicians and leaders from different countries fought a real race for immunization, which brought unprecedented visibility to the vaccine production process.
