UN Human Rights Council
The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights sent the Brazilian government a letter highlighting the areas of human rights that deserve particular attention over the next four and a half years. This communication is the final result of the third cycle of the Universal Periodic Review in Brazil and, among the highlights, are the prevention of police violence, establishment of HD training for police officers, the need to reduce pre-trial arrests and guarantee the safety of HD defenders.
The CJT/UFMG, aware of the importance of this international mechanism, actively participated in the third cycle of universal periodic review in Brazil. With the participation of Mariana Rezende, Sophia Bastos and Jessica Holl, the WCY sent a “shadow report”, collaborating with information on the situation of transitional justice in the country, which integrated the final report of civil society (“summary of stakeholders’ information ”).
